Senior Director of Strategy & Innovation
Dan Dawes serves as Senior Director of Strategy and Innovation for AgriNovus Indiana, an initiative focusing on advancing innovation in the food and agriculture industry for the State of Indiana. In this role, he leads the efforts of building an agbiosciences entrepreneurial ecosystem and serves as a catalyst for strategic collaboration among individuals, corporations, industry associations, government and universities.
Additionally, Dan is an Entrepreneur in Residence at the Purdue Research Foundation – Purdue Foundry. The Foundry exists to help Purdue students, faculty and local alumni move ideas to the marketplace more effectively. Dan is using his experience in business leadership, project management, marketing and sales to help Foundry clients achieve their business objectives.
Dan had a 30+ year career at DuPont and served in a variety of sales and marketing roles. He had profit responsibility for crops grown in the Midwestern US leading 80+ members of the Sales Teams and Marketing Managers focused on the value chain throughout the geography. Dan is especially noted for his cross functional efforts to collaborate with the seed unit, DuPont Pioneer, in generating growth strategies for the company. In 2012, Dan and his team were awarded a Corporate Marketing and Sales Achievement Award for their innovative work. He was also a key member of the group that launched the use of Six Sigma project management in DuPont and initiated its use toward generating top line growth. He led many successful projects before becoming Master Black Belt where he led a team of 12+ project managers and provided training on the methods for employees across the US, Canada and Mexico.
Dan graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Agriculture and emphasis on Ag Economics and currently serves as Vice Chairman for the Board of Directors for the Purdue Alumni Association. He grew up on a dairy farm in north central Indiana. Dan and his wife, Angel, enjoy traveling across the US to visit their three grown sons.
